Why We Love Romance (Romancing The Blog Hop)

I have been happily reading romance forever. I remember my progression vividly, from Berenstain Bears, Babysitters Club, All-American Girls, Sweet Valley High, Fear Street and on up to Harlequin my very first adult romance novel giving to me by a man… Yes, men do read romances a fact I learned at an early age. Now I am living in the great age of ebooks and I have to tell you I love it. Romance is a genre that has something for everyone across all walks of life. The heroine can be a kick ass chick, a demure debutante, lead a band of warriors, shoot fire from her fingers and all while turning into a bear.

Check out our video we are talking about what we love and hate about the romance genre, dating and how people perceive us as romance readers. I promise you will laugh:

You two are fabulous! I agree with you about romance and expectations translating to real life. Just because I enjoy reading it doesn’t necessarily mean that is what I am going to look for! I enjoy some of the multicultural books but not if the main focus is that they are an interracial couple – pu-lease. 2012 people!!! A couple authors however do a fabulous job just making the world they created seem more real by having different races (color not species) in the story and most of the time in my reviews I don’t even think about bringing up the fact that they are different races…it really doesn’t have much to do with the actual story or writing. I think the cover issue is a problem with most genres and not just multicultural. I can not count the times the cover stars some sword wielding and leather clad chick and in the story she never wears leather….or carries a sword. Also tattoos – the person on the cover has them. The character do not. ACK this drives me crazy!!! *rant over* =)

We are so on the same page…Makes you wonder what book did they read. I agree with the species. I am always trying to get more people interested in romance and sometimes if they can find themselves in the read they are more willing to try it. The authors who do get it right are so great to read, I swear I sigh when I finish reading them one of them off the top of my head Shelly Laurenston. B&L I just love talking books with you!

I love your honesty, there is not enough truth in just looking at the cover of a book! Thank you

  3. Sharon Clare

I started reading romance with Karen Marie Moning. Just love her. That said, there’s a romance in so many books. I’m with you, I love the happy ending.

You are right romance books are written just to make us feel good. I don’t want to read a book that makes me depressed. It can make me cry that’s different. It can scare me that’s good too, but love must conquer all.

    1. bookswagger

Yes! Cannot tell you the number of books that made me cry but when it all comes togather and we get the HEA its the best, made the book that much more special.

Love your video, and agree about romance books being a kind of escapism from real life. At the same time, I like the characters to be ‘real’ so that I can identify with them.

Lol! Loved your conversation on romance! What a great idea to do a video, and you’re right, you did have me laughing! Oh, but I was shocked that you two don’t like romantic comedy (movies)! I love myself some romantic comedy – anything that will make me fall in love with the characters and give me a few laughs! Lol!

Thanks for the laughs and the interesting conversation. I just liked your Facebook Fanpage and look forward to interacting with you ladies via social media. BTW, I’d love to have you two featured on my blog sometime in the near future – http://www.sharonccooper.wordpress.com

I absolutely LOVE your post and video 🙂 I fell in love with the romance genre after reading J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It’s progressed from there, and there isn’t a romance book I won’t read 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing and for the very generous and wonderful giveaway! 🙂

Thanks for participating! Really like the hop so far!! I love reading, especially romance. I love reading contemporary, historical and erotic romance. I love the happy ending that is garenteed at the end. My favorite book is Lover Mine by JR Ward! I love John Matthew and Xhex. My favorite romantic moment was when my fiancé asked me to marry him! We meant two years ago right around when summer was ending when my friend and I went out for our last big night out before classes started again. I think it is romantic when he brings me flowers because no one else has ever done it! Thanks so much! Hope everyone else is having a great long weekend!!

That’s EXACTLY what my boyfriend things when I read romance novels. He thinks that the book will make me have these unreal expectations from him, haha. I tell him numerous times that they do not. I think he’s worried I’ll leave him for a book character or something! I enjoyed watching the video, I smiled and laughed and it was great to hear your insights on dating and romance novels. 🙂 Thank you so very much for the giveaway and taking the time to post!

I know I actually just bought a tshirt that has three boxes one is for single, the other says taken and the third says in love with a fictional character and of course that is the box that is checked…Next time you should give him a smoldering look and say you just don’t know what those romance novels make me want to do to you, you sexy thing you! lol.

  13. Qwillia

For me, romance is all about the trust and respect built between the characters. Since I write BDSM, these elements are very important.

    OMG…you ladies are the BOMB!!!
I remember years ago at a job the people I worked with use to give me strange looks when I would read in the break room. Romances really? They seemed to say. Then I got a new job. There in the break room of my new job were boxes of romance books that some of the female employees had read and were sharing. I felt like I was in heaven(reader, not job…). I loved lunch hour because I could discuss my favorite subject without getting strange looks.
