A woman caught between two futures...
Awakened in the middle of the night by a future version of herself, Kris Davenport is given a mission: go travel in time to save the world--and his life. Of course, her future self doesn't tell her who he is, just sends her into the darkness and straight into an alien invasion.

Must choose between the man who has her heart...

He turns out to be ConRad Smith, the callous, untrusting military commander of Earth's army and the world's last defense against evil. There's only one way for Smith to know for sure if this strange woman is an alien spy--slice her throat. Except, he didn't anticipate the desire he would feel as he interrogates the hot-tempered, warm-blooded woman.

Or the fate that saves the world...

As Kris and ConRad struggle to trust each other in a world on the brink of destruction, they each will have to face the ultimate choice of whether to fight or die... survive or forgive.

Dark Future was an exciting read, focused on the adventure, with a female lead Kris Davenport whose development was exciting to follow. I followed Kris who I was not even sure I was going to like. As she meets the guy she is supposed to save, breaks rules and learns what it means to be a woman, from the future living in a world where woman are basically treated like they cannot make choices.

This is a dark and pretty good read. The beginning was a little hard to follow but once you get past that you are hooked and you will want to follow Kris and her surly love interest Conrad through their multiple near misses. Dark Future had plenty of surprises and I must admit, I read this one not sure who would make it to the end. I almost expected Klein to do the unthinkable and cliff hang me or kill off main characters, she had me so twisted up. If you like your heroines to show growth and your heroes surly give this one a try.

Okay I just finished Dark Future and it was an emotional, fast paced read. Which makes me wonder what was the last romance to make you teary eyed?

The Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn. It’s not technically a romance, more of historical fiction, but you get a happy ending and great love story. I truly did bawl when reading that book.

This is my first time reading any of your titles and Dark Future was labeled a dark science fiction romance. Is that your go to SFR writing style?

When I write SFR, yes. I really don’t mean to go dark, but that is where I naturally go. Even when I am writing my cowboy romances they have been described as gritty, which is unusual for contemporary romances. Lately, I’ve been trying for some lighter books. The Cowboy Rock Star had a more light and humorous feel to it. My goal for each book is to balance out the dark with humor. I think those are the best types of reading experiences.

Your heroine Kris was great definitely not to stupid to live. SFR is heavily populated with short reads and heavy erotic, sometimes it is hard to find fully fleshed out reads with great heroines. What inspired you to write  Kris story and enter this subgenre of romance.

Dark Future is actually my very first book. I really longed to write something dark and intense, but didn’t want to go into the paranormal genre. I also loved the first person POV and SFR seemed to lend itself more to that than other genres.

There are some really great SFR out there, but I agree, good fleshed-out books are getting harder to find. I think one of the reason is that women tend to shy away from the SFR genre. I think they believe that it’s too sci-fi, too much like Star Wars or Star Trek. What I would like women romance readers to understand is that SFR still has at it’s core a romance. It’s like having all the action and conflict of Firefly, but with the romance and a guaranteed happy ending. I tell readers all the time if they are looking for something new to try a good SFR. They may just find their next favorite genre.

Thank you so much for having me. I look forward to many more visits.
